Four Ways to Save on Your Vet Bill: Creating, Happy, Healthy Pets By: Tonja Steel

We all love those four legged creatures but things can sure get expensive when our pets are not feeling well. Here are four simple strategies to keep your pet healthy and full of vitality.

1. Keep Them in Shape

Just like we humans, when your pets are overweight they are much more likely to have issues like heart disease, diabetes and even joint and orthopedic problems. You can keep your pets at an ideal weight by either cutting back on their food or an even better option is having them routinely get exercise. The additional exercise will also be good for their owner. Instead of passively watching television consider getting a ball for your dog or cat toy for your favorite feline and exercise your pet while you are watching television. Those short bursts of calorie burning exercises could pay off if they are done on a routine basis.

2. Pay Attention to Changes

This sounds like a very simple strategy and yet many owners are so wrapped up in their own lives that fail to recognize significant changes with regard to their pets. Some of the most expensive veterinary bills occur when you have pets with a major health issue requiring surgery or worse. When you see sudden changes in behavior or routines it may indicate a health concern. It's a good idea for your pet to have routine checkups and that way you won't go too long in between office visits.

3. Consider a Spiritual Approach

It may sound too good to be true but new technologies are now available that some people believe enhance the quality of their pets life. Natalie Trujilo put her dog on the AIM Program of Energetic Balancing. The program works with a sophisticated computer system and a hologram (photo of your pet). The cost is $50 a month and Trujilo says since her dog started the program she has seen many positive changes. Her pet has lost excess weight, and has lost her arthritis condition and is much happier. "I think AIM is a wonderful addition to my dog's regular veterinary checkups. We are very pleased with her progress since enrolling her on AIM." Trujilo said. To find out more visit www.aimprogram.com

4.They Are What They Eat

You can greatly reduce the medical issues your pet could face by refusing to feed them table scraps. Bones can be dangerous and can splinter resulting in emergency vet visits. Chocolate is particularly toxic to dogs and cats and can increase their heart rate. Things like cheese and crackers are too high in fat and can cause additional issues and inflammation. The best bet is to feed them a high quality food that they enjoy eating. If you must change their food do so gradually.
