Pain Relief for Cats - Natural Pain Relief By: Soru Kayde

Many pain killers are dangerous for cats and can cause serious liver damage. Even the smallest amount can be potentially fatal to your feline friend and your vet may consider pain killers not to be worth the risk when assessing your cat’s condition. If this is the case it may be distressing to see your cat struggling with a painful injury or ongoing illness such as cat arthritis. Some owners may simply feel that natural pain relief methods would be safer and offer them more peace of mind. If you do get medication for your cat, please ensure it is only through the advice, prescription and guidance of your local vet and that you take your cat in for regular checkups so that any possible liver damage is detected early.

Never attempt to self medicate your cat with household pain killers. Even the smallest traces of painkillers including those intended for dogs, other small creatures or babies (Including Baby Tylenol otherwise known as Calpol), can be potentially fatal for your cat.

Cats are very special and delicate creatures so here are a few natural pain relief treatments for cats you may wish to try out before considering pain killers.

Magnetic Pet Pads and Copper Collars

These products use magnetism to alleviate your pet’s pain and copper bands are often used by arthritis sufferers with notable results. Many cat owners have testified to the use of copper collars after seeing a noticeable difference in their pet cat’s behaviour including more energy, ease of movement and jumping to previously no longer attainable heights.

You can place a magnetic pet pad on the sleeping area of your cat or if they have no fixed bedding area you can use a copper collar or a copper band for a specific area. These copper magnet products are in theory designed to increase the flow of oxygen in the blood and increase the production of the body’s natural pain killers known as endorphins. Many cat owners will testify to their pain relief power so if your cat is suffering from long term pain you may wish to invest in on of these products as it will be worth the expenditure.

Change of Diet

Just as we can become affected by our diet so can cats. Talk to your local veterinary clinic about your cat’s typical diet and their condition. Many vets will provide on sale a range of cat food’s that cater to a particular deficiency or promote health and well being in general. Foods that have added vitamins for example, can help speed up the natural healing process after an injury.

Cat Massage or Acupuncture

Ask your vet about massage leaflets if your cat is suffering from a long term illness such as arthritis. Many vets will encourage regular massage if practiced properly for your pet’s affected joints. You could also try taking your cat to a specialist cat acupuncture clinic although this is the more costly version and will regular appointments.
